Mark Blanton was one of the first artsts to join the Studio section of our forums. He is a skilled pin-up artist, but he is a lot more than that. Look at these fine drawings connecting historical erotic imagery with today’s.

Some of you will remember the Hidden Archives. Although we closed it years ago, we felt that the new Amea site could do with a forums section. The idea was to start a new forum, but we still had the database of the old site and finally — overwhelmed by nostalgia — we decided to add new software and a new look to the old forums.

We are not completely finished restyling and there might be a bug here and there, but the site is fully functional. Access is free, but you will need to register to post and download images.

You will find the new forums here:

http://www.ameanet.org/ha

If you still have an account (paid subscription or free) that is not active any more, please drop us a line and we will activate it for you. In case you forgot your password, you can reset it using the “forgot your password?” option.

Sexual aspects always played a mayor role in art, it's surely not something that's limited to our present time, we humans always felt the need to visualize our desires and celebrate the beauty of love.

Venus of Willendorf

Sexual aspects always played a mayor role in art, it’s surely not something that’s limited to our present time, we humans always felt the need to visualize our desires and celebrate the beauty of love. Even the first artworks made by humans have a distinct sexual nature, like the ‘Venus of Willendorf’ a small fertility statute. But the concept of erotic art for entertainment or artistic purposes only is something of our modern times, before 1900 erotic themes and nudity were used, more or less, functional. These artworks had a religious or even magical purpose.

Even if we take some hidden erotic art, like small naughty paintings or erotic drawings, into consideration, it is safe to say that erotic art for entertainment purposes was invented along with photography. And looking at the erotic art of today, photography is still the favorite medium to express human sexuality. The directness of the medium, the reality displayed and the easy way to distribute the images are some of the main reasons I guess.

But there are erotic artists using different media, like ceramics, bronze and paintings, and it seems to me that these other media are becoming increasingly popular. Maybe we are getting tired of the reality displayed in photographic erotic art, are we looking for more authentical , or even magical, images again. Like the ceramic sculptures of Martino Catalano, or the paintings of Raphael Perez to name just a few of these other erotic artists.

Perspectives Upon the Concept of Classic Erotica

Miscellaneous

What does classic erotica mean and represent? Keep on reading if you want to find out.

Classic erotica is becoming more and more popular today, as opposed to more aggressive publications that express sexuality more explicitly. But let’s define terms first. Like other types of contents that are destined to adults, erotica publications present a wide range of specific categories that range from the basic male erotica and woman erotica to mature erotica. But the one category that presents erotica content in the pure meaning of the word is entitled classic erotica.

What does classic erotica mean? Classic erotica refers to all types of publications and contents, be it the case of visual or textual contents that describe sexual acts and intimate relationships in a complex context, a context which implies, besides a physical, sexual perspective, a mental and psychological, spiritual perspective. In other words, sex is still sex, yet the perspective upon sex and the descriptions that try to represent it present other elements that do not literally regard the sexual act itself, but regard the context of fantasies, imagination, feelings, sensations and emotions. Based on this fact, the difference between classic erotica and other types of more provocative or vulgar sexual related contents or visual materials is clear. Classic erotica promotes sex in a more gentle way, a way that does not exclude the inner feelings of the individuals that are part of the sexual experience. Besides, classic erotica sees the sexual act as an actual experience, a complex experience that connects carious sensations, thoughts, personal feelings and stimulants in one single and relevant experience.

Classic erotica contents can be found on a wide range of specialized websites. In most cases, these sites present various categories that address to a certain target and to certain preferences. In general, classic erotica for women is softer than classic erotica for men and the latter one presents more action and less descriptions. Furthermore, there are numerous types of formats that can present classic erotica, ranging from poems to erotica novels and short stories.

Classic erotica is not offensive, nor is it considered too aggressive, explicit sexual content or vulgar material. It is a softer, more approachable perspective upon sexuality and sexual acts. It is a tender perspective upon intimate relationships, even though it is still based on promoting and experiencing new fantasies, challenging and exciting sexual actions. But what classic erotica is trying to promote is not degrading, nor is it decadent, even though it does refer to sexual activities. Still, since these sexual activities are presented as natural, beautiful activities that imply imagination and feelings, classic erotica contents can be considered actual forms of expression rather than simple, basic sexual stimulants.
